On November 4, Professor Wu Jian, Dean of the School of Healthcare Management at Tsinghua University, led a faculty delegation to Taikang Community (Suyuan) as the third stop on the Yangtze River Delta Study Tour. During the visit, the delegation examined the continuing care retirement community (CCRC) operational model and explored pathways for integrating healthcare, elderly care, and wellness services. Tian Changliang, General Manager of the B2B2C Insurance Department at Taikang Pension’s Jiangsu Branch, accompanied the delegation throughout the visit. Wang Hong, General Manager of Taikang Community (Suyuan), and representatives of Taikang Xianlin Drum Tower Hospital participated in the symposium.
During the visit, the delegation toured the residential areas, medical facilities, and health management services at Taikang Community (Suyuan), gaining firsthand insight into its operational model built on high-quality service and whole-lifecycle care. Taikang representatives explained how the community integrates medical resources with health management to create an integrated service system combining healthcare, elderly care, and wellness. This system ensures that residents receive comprehensive support, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to specialized clinical care.

During the symposium, the two sides delved into innovative elderly care mechanisms, pathways for medical resource optimization, and the potential for international collaboration to enhance service quality. They agreed that fostering synergy between policy, industry, and talent is essential for building a sustainable, high-quality elderly care ecosystem.

This visit provided the School of Healthcare Management with valuable experience to inform its policy research in the integration of healthcare and elder care. Moving forward, the School will continue to monitor developments at the forefront of the industry and promote closer collaboration between industry, academia, and research institutes, thereby contributing to the development of a modern, integrated healthcare and elderly care system tailored to China’s national context.
