Industry–University–Research Collaboration | Dialogue with Ant Group: Exploring Innovation in Smart Digital Healthcare Applications

On January 6, a delegation comprising faculty members and students from the School of Healthcare Management at Tsinghua University visited Ant Group. The two sides held in-depth discussions on the business portfolio, technological R&D, and future directions for collaboration. They also discussed innovative applications of digital and intelligent technologies in healthcare, with the goal of fostering closer integration among industry, universities, and research institutes.

The delegation was warmly received by several key leaders from Ant Group, including Zhen Shuai, General Manager of theDigital Health Department at Ant Health Business Group, Cui Baosong, General Manager of Healthcare Service Operations, Ma Dongdong, Director of Research Collaboration at Ant Group Research, and Fan Qianrui, Business Specialist at the Digital Health Department. Associate Professors Li Jiayi, Wu You, and Yu Miao were part of the delegation.

The visit began with a tour of Ant Group's T Space exhibition hall, where the delegation gained firsthand insight into the company's digital innovations and its development philosophy.

During the symposium, Associate Professor Li Jiayi provided a comprehensive overview of the School of Healthcare Management's history, core academic portfolio, and research directions. She pointed out that the School's academic architecture is built upon four strategic pillars, with research spanning multiple areas, including healthcare policy, health management, and digital health. Professor Li's presentation highlighted the School's robust research and interdisciplinary innovation capabilities, offering clear guidance for both sides in identifying potential areas for research collaboration.

Zhen Shuai, General Manager of the Digital Health Department at Ant Health Business Group, introduced the evolution of Ant Health, its business portfolio, and its open exploration in digital healthcare. Fan Qianrui, Business Specialist in the department, outlined the group's progress in developing medical large language models and noted that Ant Health has entered a new era of smart health services. Cui Baosong, General Manager of Healthcare Service Operations, provided an overview of the operations of the telemedicine division.

The delegation agreed that Ant Health's diversified, technology-driven business portfolio aligns perfectly with key research directions in smart healthcare management. They commended the group's open exploration of technology, which provides a strong foundation for collaboration among industry, universities, and research institutes to drive innovation. The abundance of real-world data and diverse use cases provides valuable case studies for academic research, laying a solid foundation for both sides to further deepen their partnership in the future.

The symposium also featured a telemedicine research proposal presented by doctoral student Huang Zhongmou. By combining the School of Healthcare Management's academic strengths and Ant Group's real-world business scenarios, he outlined feasible research topics and a research plan. This sparked lively discussion between the two sides on the proposal's feasibility, data requirements, and academic and social value.

This exchange has led to the establishment of a platform for regular communication between Ant Group and the School of Healthcare Management at Tsinghua University. Going forward, both parties will leverage their respective strengths to pursue collaboration in digital health innovation, talent development, and other areas, thereby contributing to the high-quality development of the healthcare sector.
